Buhari Orders Headcount Of Nigerian Hajj Pilgrims In Saudi Arabia

0

To match Interview NIGERIA-BUHARI/President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday ordered the National Hajj Commission and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to urgently account for all Nigerian pilgrims in the holy land.

The order which was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, was as a result of the last Thursday’s stampede at Mina which claimed over 700 lives.

Shehu explained that the presidential order was necessitated by the conflicting reports on the number of Nigerians who died or suffered injuries in the disaster.

He said the President was concerned that days after the incident, some Nigerian families were still grappling with painful uncertainty over the fate of their relatives who traveled to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj.

Early Monday morning, students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, shut the university’s two exit gates, in protest what they called an infestation of bedbugs and mosquitoes in their hostels.

The protest began very early in the morning when a group of students found it difficult to have a good sleep owing to the incessant pestering of the unwanted bugs. They took to the streets in annoyance and shut off all entrances to the school which led to the build up of traffic within and around the university community.

Please Help Me – Saraki Runs To Ex-Presidents, Influential Nigerians

0

saraki-sadAccording to The Nation, Senate President, Bukola Saraki in the midst of the travails that have presently engulfed him may have reached in the last couple of days reached out to three of the nation’s former leaders and other influential Nigerians to intercede on his behalf to President Buhari. This is according to a source though Saraki has kept a stoic face that he is on top of the dire situation he is entangled in.

While one of the ex-leaders indeed spoke to the President on the issue, the two others allegedly declined and instead asked him to make peace with his party at “whatever cost.”

The euphemism for “whatever cost”, according to a source is for Saraki to either step down or accede to his party’s position on the composition of principal offices in the Senate.

An attempt by Saraki to also co-opt the Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi (an old student of the prestigious Kings College like Saraki) was also futile as the monarch failed to extract any commitment from the President.

Ignore What The Police Said, We Paid Ransom For Falae’s Release – Family Source

0

oluFalae2-700x336

A family member has said contrary to the claim by the police authorities, ransom was paid before former minister of finance and chieftain of Afenifere, Chief Falae was eventually released.

The family source also berated the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase of claiming the glory for Falae’s release saying the police boss just came to Ondo for jamboree “because Police did not have any input in Baba’s release.”

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was kidnapped in his farm at Ilado in Akure North Local Government Area by suspected Fulani herdsmen. He regained his freedom after spending four days in the kidnappers’ den.

“I wonder why people don’t investigate well before talking. It will be very unfair to give any kudos to the police over Chief Falae’s release having being held hostage for four days.

Check PRICES of Phones, Electronics & Fashion on PricePadi.com

“If we relied on Police to rescue Baba and ignored his abductors on the ransom they demanded by now we would have been telling another story. But we thank God our Baba came back alive.”

The source did not disclose the actual amount paid but said the family had to appeal to the hoodlums to spare Falae’s life saying the kidnappers threatened seriously.

“So, in this kind of development, we should wait and be listening to the police? My brother, forget. As far as I know, the police didn’t play any role in his release. The family played ball with the abductors, and they took him back to his farm where he was kidnapped and dropped him there. “Baba even said it when he got home that after the abductors had concluded their arrangements with his family, they took him back to his farm at Ilado and dropped him there.

“Baba said when his abductors dropped him, he trekked several kilometers from his farm to a hotel in owo where he met some policemen and introduced himself as Chief Olu Falae. That was how the Police got to know of his release and hijacked the whole process as if they are the one who rescued him. Only an unreasonable person will still give kudos to the police for the Chief’s release. We know who and who we should thank, not the police,” the furious family source said.

Buhari Stops Special Allowance For Aso Villa Guards. Find Out Why

0

BuhariPortrait

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the stoppage of special allowance for security personnel in the Presidential Villa even as he has refused to pay  them since his assumption of office. This is according to a PUNCH report.

Before now, all security personnel posted to the Villa were being paid what is known as Risk and Hazard Allowance.

During the last regime, sources gathered that senior security officers covering the Villa were said to have been collecting between N75,000 and N50,000 while their junior ones received between N30,000 and N25,000 on a monthly basis.

It was gathered that the ADC to the President, Lt. Col. Muhammed Abubakar, summoned sectional heads of all the security agencies manning different positions within the Villa to inform them about the stoppage of the allowance following rumours making the rounds among the operatives that the money meant for the affected officers was being embezzled.

It was further gathered that the leaders of the affected security organs were told that the officers manning the Villa should be contented with their monthly salaries.

Besides, it was also gathered that the Chief Security Officer, Bashir Abubarkar, had written two letters to the National Security Adviser, Gen. Babagana Monguno(retd.) on the issue of the RCA, but was said to have been told that such allowance was illegal and that the President had asked that it be stopped.

Efforts made to get the reaction of the Presidency failed as calls made to the telephone number of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mallam Garba Shehu, were not answered.

APC Chairman Summons Emergency Meeting To Discuss Saraki, Buhari’s Ministerial List, Others

0

APC CHAIR John OyegunIndications have emerged, yesterday, that the Senate will receive the ministerial list from President Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow or Wednesday.

Ahead of the submission of the Ministerial list by President Buhari, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, for today.

According to a source, besides discussing the proposed ministerial list, the party leadership will brainstorm on the multiple crises rocking it.

Some of the issues to be discussed include the management of the party’s success, the power rift between the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, among others.

The meeting will also dwell on the ministerial list that has put the party against President Buhari, who seems not to be interested in consulting officials of the party in the appointment of the members of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, and the power rift between the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

According to the NWC member, the crisis between the chieftains of APC has stalled the inauguration of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, as well as holding of the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.

Another issue listed for discussion at today’s meeting, the source said, would be the power rift between Osinbajo and el-Rufai, who is perceived as the ‘unofficial Vice President’.

Check PRICES of Phones, Electronics & Fashion on PricePadi.com

It was gathered that el–Rufai made an uncomplimentary remark on the Vice President, to which Osinbajo was said to have protested and eventually walked out of the said meeting in the presence of President Buhari.

It was also gathered that prior to his storming out of the meeting, the angered Osinbajo told Buhari: “I am an elected Vice President and would not sit down here and allow a governor to insult me.”

According to the NWC member, the leadership of APC was not comfortable with this development and was determined not to sit down and watch the Vice President and being treated as a puppet.

Also to be discussed at the meeting is the seeming feud between APC national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

The chieftain said: “Why must there be preferential treatment and separate rules? Whereas, Tinubu was acquitted for non- compliance with section 3 (D), the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, is insisting on Dr. Abubakar Saraki standing trial for an issue that the former Lagos State governor was acquitted and the suit struck out.”

Also to be discussed is the media war between Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and the former governor of Bayelsa state, Timi Sylva.

How Nigerian Mission Prevented President Buhari From Meeting Pope Francis At UN Meeting

0

buhari at UN MeetingThe Nigerian mission has embarassed President Muhammadu Buhari and his itinerary at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York on Friday, TheCable can report authoritatively.

The president missed a very important event on Boko Haram and internally displaced persons (IDPs) and was also prevented from meeting with Pope Francis because he was not properly briefed by the Nigerian UN mission staff.

The pope delivered a speech at the general assembly on Friday at 10am.

Not only was Buhari made to come in late to the meeting because of untidy arrangements, he also took a wrong gate rather than the one reserved for presidents and heads of state. He was subsequently prevented from seeing the pope by security operatives because of his late arrival.

Buhari came in while other presidents and heads of government had already lined up to shake hands with the pope, and he was prevented by security operatives from joining in.‎

Presidency had sought to explain the missed meeting as not being part of the official events lined up for the president.

“The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one of the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York,” Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, had said.

Check PRICES of Phones, Electronics & Fashion on PricePadi.com

But not only was it an official event, the focus was on the Lake Chad Basin and the effects of insurgency to which Nigeria’s full participation was expected.

The listed UN events had the item: “The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will hold a side event on food security and humanitarian consequences of conflicts-driven displacement in the Lake Chad Basin region.”

It was scheduled for 3pm US time (8pm Nigerian time), but ‎the president’s programme prepared by the Nigerian mission did not list it as one of the events he should attend.

‎The session was titled “Lake Chad Basin at A Cross Road: Addressing Urgent Humanitarian Needs in An Overlooked Crisis”.

A high-level government representative of the Nigerian Government was expected to be at the event which was organised by the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and chaired by Stephen O’Brien, undersecretary-general of the UN.‎

Witnesses to both incidents described as “embarrassing and unacceptable” the attitude of the Nigerian mission staff which led to media backlash back home and on the social media.

The witnesses also blamed the presidential media team for rushing to the press to defend ‎the president’s absence at a very crucial meeting whose discussion was on a matter in which Nigeria has been worst hit by the activities of the insurgents.

Buhari To Release Ministerial List Latest By Wednesday, Says Femi Adesina

Buhari-in-Paris-4

President Muhammadu Buhari’s highly anticipated ministerial list will allegedly be released on Wednesday, September 30th. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed this yesterday in New York.

Describing the president as a man of his word, Adeshina said Nigerians would not be disappointed as September, the date given for the announcement of members of his cabinet will be adhered to.

APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun told THISDAY yesterday that Buhari meant well for the country and he will do everything humanly possible to ensure good governance.
According to the media publisher, the president was under intense pressure to relax his tough standards for qualifying persons for positions in his planned cabinet to avoid alienating many members of his party.
Shehu said, “The president had said it twice that he would submit his ministerial list to the National Assembly in September. As you can see, that position has not changed.”

On APC’s position on the release of the ministerial nominees’ names this month, Odigie-Oyegun said, “There is no cause for alarm. We are confident the president will keep his promise. He will not disappoint Nigerians on his pledge to provide good governance for the enhancement of the nation.”

An inside source in the federal government revealed, “President Muhammadu Buhari has consistently told us that he would not appoint corrupt and people with questionable characters as members of his cabinet. But in the last few weeks, he has come under suffocating pressure to shift his ground.
“The argument of many people is that the president would side-line his party, the All Progressives Congress, if he maintains his ground to appoint only clean people. This is what has caused the delay and this is the moral question he is currently battling to resolve.”

Obasanjo And Buhari Hold Secret Closed Door Meeting To Discuss Saraki, Ministers, Others

0

buhari and obasanjo UN meeting

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, met with President Buhari in New York City behind closed doors to allegedly discuss affairs of the nation bordering on Saraki’s trial, and the soon-to-be-released ministerial list.

Top ranking Nigerians including Obasanjo had their reservations about things going on in the country including the appointment of Buhari’s kitchen cabinet that was considered concentrated in one part of the country, the proposed ministerial list, squabbles with the leadership of the Senate, especially Senate President Bukola Saraki, leading to speculations of plans and counter moves to effect changes in the Red Chamber.

Although no one was able to go near the venue of the meeting between the two Nigerian leaders, Obasanjo, it was said, believes that it is his duty to protect the present government. It was, therefore, considered a tactical move on the part of the former President to have ‘cornered’ President Buhari in New York.

Obasanjo reportedly met President Buhari at Millennium Hotel Plaza in New York while he was there to attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting of Heads of States.

Obasanjo was said to have quickly moved to the 36th floor of the hotel, where the secret meeting lasted for one hour. Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, who walked out of the elevator with Buhari, was denied entry when the meeting between the two leaders commenced.

According to a source, some of those who were successful already knew themselves because after the security checks on them, words got back to them on what was going on. Those who could not make the list are, however, hopeful to make ambassadorial positions or headships of parastatals when the President decides to make further appointments.

Check PRICES of Phones, Electronics & Fashion on PricePadi.com

The source alleged huge plans against the Senate President, following views in several powerful quarters about his ‘non-palatable’ conduct in the recent past.

The source said: “Don’t forget that Saraki, as the Senate President, ran to Obasanjo for his intervention when it was obvious that the party was against him. The President had refused to see him since his emergence as President of the Senate. Obviously, they want Saraki to negotiate from a position of weakness.

I can tell you that the alleged harassment of Saraki in Ilorin was well co-ordinated if not out rightly organised by the party. There would be more protests on the street tomorrow and Tuesday when the Senate is expected to resume. There is just no way that the Senate can keep Saraki as the President. All steps are being taken to get Saraki and Ekweremadu out of the positions meant for the party.”

But another source said some senators confided in Obasanjo as one of the fathers of the nation on the likely consequences of the steps taken to oust Saraki and Ekweremadu. By the time Obasanjo was briefed on what the senators could possibly do, Obasanjo had no alternative than to meet with Buhari so as to mediate and ensure that Nigeria’s democraxy remains intact and unshaken.

Most Politicians Are Guilty Of False Asset Declaration – Sen. Okunrounmu

0

Senator-Femi-Okurounmu

Chairman of the 2014 National Conference Convocation Committee Senator Femi Okunrounmu has stated that many Nigerian politicians were guilty of declaring false assets.

Okunrounmu stated this while speaking with reporters at the 80th birthday celebration of the founder of the Oodu’a Peoples Congress, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, in Lagos.

According to him if anybody contravened the law or the constitution in any way, the person should be brought to account for his actions.

He expressed, “It should cover all the people who are guilty, not just target a few individuals. Ninety per cent of politicians declare assets falsely, so the law should go after all the people that are guilty of such false declaration of assets, try them and bring them to justice. They should not just target one or two people.”

Speaking about national confab, Okunrounmu alleged that leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress had always opposed it.

“May be, the constitution is favourable to some parts of the North; many northern APC leaders have always opposed a national confab. One can understand why they oppose a confab, but those who know how the current constitution came to being know that it was fashioned by successive military rulers, mostly from the North,” he alleged.
